Explore the World Through Spanish at UNF

Earn a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish by completing 30 credit hours of upper-level courses. At UNF, you will study the Spanish language along with the histories, literatures and cultures of Spain, Latin America and the Hispanic world. Courses cover language, culture and literature, with opportunities to focus on professional Spanish, heritage speaker development and study abroad. Whether your interests are in education, business, travel or international careers, this program equips you with the skills and cultural understanding to thrive in an increasingly global community.

Job Outlook

Spanish students who seek employment after graduating are successful in 4 distinct areas of employment
  1. Education and Language Services: Careers in teaching Spanish at various levels, coordinating study abroad programs, or developing language learning materials.
  2. Translation and Interpretation: Positions providing professional language services for government agencies, businesses, media organizations, and nonprofits.
  3. International Business and Trade: Roles in sales, marketing, import/export, and client relations with companies operating in Spanish-speaking markets.
  4. Government and Diplomacy: Careers in foreign service, intelligence, immigration services, and cultural affairs with agencies such as the U.S. Department of State or international NGOs.
  • Core Requirements (9 credits)

    Grades of C or above are required in all major courses.

    Note: Students should select their first SPN or SPW course according to placement test results and departmental recommendation. Please contact the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures about course placement and retroactive credit.

    Complete ALL of the following Courses:

    FOT3000: Career Pathways in Language and Culture Study (3 Credits)*

    *Course pending state approval

    Students who place out of SPN2200 Spanish Intermediate I and SPN2201 Intermediate Spanish II may waive SPN2200 and/or SPN2201; substitute any SPN, SPW, or FOL electives at the 3000 level or above; or apply for retroactive credit.

  • Minor Requirement

    A minor is required for this major.* (Credits will vary)

    The minor must be selected from the list of approved minors, including those outside the college of the major.

    The consists of Intermediate Spanish I, Intermediate Spanish II, and three upper-level courses.

    See  in the Undergraduate Catalog. Minors are generally completed during the last 60 credit hours of your program. Your minor may require prerequisites, so choosing a minor early is beneficial. See your Advisor to declare a minor.

    *Double majors are exempt from a minor.

  • Tuition
