Student Learning Outcomes Matrix Narrative:

Faculty continue to review and review learning measures and outcomes to ensure the sport management curriculum and course content remain aligned with industry best practices. AY 2024-2025 results demonstrate the most SLOs met or exceeded benchmarks, showing stable or improved performance compared to AY 2023-2024. Gains were seen in site supervisor evaluation and legal presentation socres, while the brand identity profile saw a slight decrease. Two measures (Fact Pattern and Digital Credential) again lacked data due to non-implementation or low completion. Faculty will standardize assignment use, expand early interventions for credential completion, and integrate additional applied learning experiences. These efforts reflect the program's ongoing cycle of assessment, reflection, and action, using results to drive curriculum refinement and enhance student learning outcomes.

A review of SLO measures compared to previous years is as follows:

SLO1: Demonstrate communication strategies that effectively engage sport industry audiences using appropriate technologies and media platforms.

  • Direct Measures: Press Release (90% - meets expectations, consistent with 91.3% in 2023-24 and Social Media Analysis Assignment (81% - meets expectations, new measure for 2024-25).
  • Indirect Measure: Senior Survey (100% - exceeds expectations, previously 100%)

Assessment Findings and Resulting Actions: Overall, results on the press release were consistent with the previous academic year. In response to last year’s recommendation to expand varied measures, SLO 1 was reviewed and revised to better align with industry communication strategies that effectively engage audiences using current technologies and media platforms. A new measure was added, and its rubric is included in the appendix. This new assessment increased rigor and critical thinking required for success. As this is the first year of data for the new measure, we cannot yet evaluate trends.

SL0 2: Demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to become effective sport managers.

Direct Measure: Internship Final Project (90% meets expectations; consistent with 90.9% in 2023-24).

Indirect Measures: Site Supervisor Evaluation (98.5% exceeds expectations; improved from 95.4%) and Senior Survey (96% exceeds expectations; previously 100%).

Evaluation and Improvement Cycle: Supervisor evaluations showed improvement, while the final project remained consistent but below the higher benchmark of 95%. Faculty will refine rubrics and internship guidelines to ensure alignment with industry competencies and continue pre-internship workshops to reinforce skills.

SLO 3: Analyze and explain legal concepts relevant to the sport industry.

  • Direct Measures: Legal Issue Presentation/Paper (91% exceeds expectations; up from 82.5%)
  • Indirect Measure: Senior Survey (92% exceeds expectations; previously 91.3%)

Assessment-Based Program Improvements: The Legal Issue Presentation/Paper showed marked improvement. In AY 2025-26, permanent faculty will work on standardizing student learning outcome measures given the high number of adjuncts or visitors who teach this course. Faculty will also consider additional authentic assessments to enhance learning.

SLO 4: Apply fundamental marketing concepts to the sport industry and understand the unique aspects of sport consumer and product markets.

Direct Measures: Brand Identity Profile/Audit (93% exceeds expectations; slightly decreased from 100% in 2023-24) and Sport Marketing Plan (81% meets expectations; new measure for 2024-25).

Indirect Measure: Senior Survey (92% exceeds expectations; consistent to 91% in 2023-24).

Application of Assessment Results to Program Improvement: The new Sport Marketing Plan measure met expectations but highlighted areas for improvement. This is a new direct measure of student learning and is a culminating final project that requires students to work with sport industry partners to develop a comprehensive marketing plan. The assignment is rigorous and time-intensive thus the benchmark of 80%. This project is consistently assigned by our primary sport marketing faculty member will continue to focus on scaffolding key concepts earlier in the curriculum to strengthen students’ ability to develop comprehensive and actionable marketing plans.

SLO 5: Recognize and understand the socio-cultural variables that influence sport.

  • Direct Measures: Sport Issues Presentation/Paper (91% exceeds expectations; consistent with 91.5% in 2023-24); Digital Credential (insufficient data; completion rate not tracked in 2024-25).
  • Indirect Measure: Senior Survey (96% exceeds expectations; unchanged from 2023-24).

Assessment Findings and Resulting Actions: Results for the presentation remained steady. The digital credential measure lacked data due to low completion rates. Faculty will introduce the badge earlier in the curriculum and provide structured support to improve completion. Last year, we reported that we would be adding a Sport Industry Workplace micro-credential as a direct measure of student learning. Due to changes in instructors of record, this action was delayed. We are working to ensure this measure is added in the next reporting cycle.

SLO 6: Demonstrate an understanding of financial decision-making in relation to the sport industry.

Direct Measure: Financial Digital Credential (90% meets expectations; unchanged from 2024 AY).

Indirect Measure: Senior Survey (92% exceeds expectations; consistent with 91.3% in 2023-24).

Evidence-Based Changes and Future Plans: Results remained consistent with the previous year. Faculty will continue integrating Excel-based exercises, sport business analysis, and data.

Program-Level Operational Effectiveness Goals Narrative - Academic Year 2024-25

The Sport Management program at the 成人大片 demonstrated measurable progress in operational effectiveness during AY 2024-25. Compared to AY 2023-24, the program improved in graduation rates, student confidence measures, and instructional quality, while continuing to meet or exceed most benchmarks. The program applies an intentional evaluation and improvement cycle where results are reviewed, reflected upon, and translated into assessment-based program improvements. The program remains committed to using assessment results for continuous improvement, ensuring alignment with COSMA standards and preparing students for success in the sport industry.

OEG 1: Recruit, retain, and graduate students in the major.

  • Graduation Rate: The FTIC 4-year graduation rate improved from 51% in 2023-24 to 77% in 2024-25, exceeding the 60% benchmark. This growth reflects continued implementation of proactive advising strategies, including monthly progress reports, registration holds for off-track students, and faculty outreach. Excess-hour data were again unavailable, and this measure will be removed moving forward. It should also be noted that numerous factors related to the pandemic impacted the previous year reporting.
  • Retention: Retention increased to 86%, up from 80% the prior year, also exceeding the 50% benchmark.

Assessment Findings and Resulting Actions: Faculty will continue to emphasize early advising, frequent progress monitoring, and student communication as these strategies correlate with improved retention and on-time graduation. Removal of the excess-hour measure will allow focus on actionable data available from university systems.
