Alpha Envirotech Consulting
From Vision to Impact: The Journey of Alpha Envirotech Consulting, Inc.
After years of working as a senior environmental engineer at an international firm, Amy Fu, the founder of Alpha Envirotech Consulting, began to envision a different kind of company, one that could operate more efficiently and responsively than the large corporations dominating the industry. With nearly three decades of experience and approaching her 50th birthday, Amy decided it was time to take a leap. In mid-2018, she launched Alpha Envirotech Consulting, determined to build a business that prioritized both client satisfaction and operational excellence.
Amy’s journey was rooted in a strong academic foundation. She holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering and two master’s degrees in chemistry. Since 2010, she has been pursuing a PhD in Environmental Engineering at the University of Florida, where she continues to expand her knowledge. Her commitment to lifelong learning is evident in her professional credentials as well; she became a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Florida in 2005 and has since earned licensure in six additional states: Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Maryland.
Starting Alpha Envirotech Consulting was not without its challenges. With no startup capital and minimal connections in the private sector, the early days were tough. As a minority woman entering a well-established and competitive industry, Amy faced additional hurdles. Yet, her resilience and resourcefulness helped her push through.
A key factor in Amy’s success was the support she received from the Small Business Development Center (SBDC). From the beginning, she immersed herself in every class and service offered. With little prior knowledge of the business world, she treated the SBDC as a free, practical business school. When advised to register with SAM.gov, she visited the SBDC monthly until the process was complete. This guidance proved invaluable.
Today, Alpha Envirotech Consulting is known for its high-quality work and responsiveness. Despite being a small business, the firm offers a wide range of environmental engineering services delivered by seasoned professionals. Senior staff members personally conduct fieldwork, ensuring that site knowledge is retained and communicated effectively, an approach that minimizes risk for clients and sets the company apart.
Amy’s commitment to community service has also played a role in shaping her business. She served on the City of Jacksonville Environmental Protection Board for seven years, including a term as chair, and in 2024 was appointed by Mayor Deegan to the City of Jacksonville Planning Commission, where she currently serves as an At-large Commissioner.
Exciting developments continue for , including their first project in Mississippi. Amy says of the assistance provided by the SBDC “I would definitely recommend SBDC to my business associates. We would not be able to survive and thrive without their generous help. They are truly on our side.”
