成人大片receives $1.3M National Science Foundation grant to support STEM education
The 成人大片 has received a $1.3 million grant from the National Science Foundation to support the development, testing and research of a STEM education tabletop roleplaying game.
Dr. Brian Lane, assistant professor of physics and co-director of UNF’s Northeast Florida Center for STEM Education, will lead the project that draws on his expertise as a STEM education researcher and as a third-party author for the Pathfinder tabletop roleplaying game.
The game titled Adventures with Emmy (AwE) will be a Dungeons and Dragons-type adventure for learning science and engineering, featuring prominent historical mathematician and physicist Emmy Noether as the primary quest giver. Noether developed an important, sweeping theorem that summarizes college-level physics in a single principle. AwE blends deep conceptual exploration of STEM concepts with fun, strategic, collaborative storytelling to develop players’ engagement with STEM content, their sense of STEM identity and their sense of belonging in the STEM community.
The project is authored by a team of well-known tabletop roleplaying game creators who each have a different STEM academic background. It also includes a collaboration with the University of Colorado Boulder, a national leader in STEM education research.
The game rules and adventures produced under the grant will be available for free to the public, educators and developers after the end of the project in summer 2028. The project will also produce guidelines and workshops for the publication of third-party game expansions. As part of the research and playtesting, the project will host outreach events for the public to try out the game in Jacksonville and beyond starting in March 2026.
